After England’s title defence evaporates, Buttler defends the toss decision

Image
The title defence of the England cricket team at the T20 World Cup evaporated following a 68-run hammering in the second semi-final, but captain Jos Buttler didn’t put any blame on his decision to field against India on Thursday. After rain and a wet outfield delayed the start of the match, Buttler elected to field after winning the toss, probably more comfortable chasing a target than setting one, especially with the prospect of more rain at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Even Rohit Sharma was happy with this decision by Jos Buttler. Rohit smashed a half-century in the match as India posted a strong 171-7 on a slow surface where batting got trickier as the match wore on. At the post-match presentation, Buttler said, “With the rain around, we didn’t think the conditions would change, and they didn't—they just outplayed us and got a very good score.” He also said, “I don’t think the toss was the difference between us.” The opener felt they conceded 20–25 extra runs on a challengi

Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup exit vs South Africa Michael Vaughan blames India’s scheduling

Image
Former captain of team England Michael Vaughan has sparked controversy by suggesting the T20 World Cup schedule might have disadvantaged Afghanistan in their semi-final defeat to South Africa. Afghanistan’s dream run in the T20 World Cup came to a crashing end as they were bundled out for a meager 56 runs in the first semi-final against South Africa. Afghanistan was unable to counteract as South Africa's bowlers took advantage of the circumstances. Michael Vaughan expressed his worries about Afghanistan's difficulties on social media. He cited a major airline delay that caused them to miss their semi-final departure from Trinidad. They were at a disadvantage because of the delay since they had less time to prepare and get used to the new location. Michael Vaughan went on to question the schedule's fairness, speculating that it might have given priority to the timings of Indian viewers above maintaining a competitive edge. He maintained that Guyana ought to have hosted the

Travis Head dethroned Suryakumar Yadav from the top of the T20I batter rankings

Image
The star batsman of team India, Suryakumar Yadav, got dethroned from the top of the ICC T20I batter rankings after being in the top spot since December 2023. The star opener of Australia, Travis Head, has taken the spot of Suryakumar after jumping four places following a good run in the T20 World Cup 2024. He is the second-highest run scorer of the tournament so far, as he has smashed 255 runs in seven innings at an average of 42.50 and a strike rate of 158.38, with two half-centuries to his name. The 30-year-old played an amazing innings of 76 runs in 43 balls against India during his team’s last Super 8 fixture. However, he failed to take his team over the line as Australia could only reach 181/7 in their allotted 20 overs in reply to India’s total of 205/5. On the other hand, in the ongoing event, Suryakumar has been the third-highest run scorer for India, with 149 runs to his name from six innings at an average of 29.80 and a strike rate of 139.25. The 33-year-old scored back-to-ba

With Australia’s T20 World Cup crash David Warner’s international career ends

Image
The remarkable 15-year international journey of David Warner has come to an end, albeit in an understated manner. Australia’s T20 World Cup exit at the Super Eight stage, confirmed by the victory of Afghanistan over Bangladesh, marked the final chapter in Warner’s playing career for his national team. Gradually the retirement of David Warner has unfolded. After defeating India in the World Cup in November, he announced his retirement from ODIs. In January, he played his final Test match against Pakistan. It has always been his intention to use the T20 World Cup as his farewell, and a return for the Champions Trophy the following year is still unlikely. Against India, his final international match lacked the grandeur of a farewell. Warner scored a pitiful six runs before walking off the field, not realizing that this might be his last performance wearing an Australian shirt. There were no cheers or standing ovations because his official send-off depended on the result of the Afghani

Shubman Gill could be named skipper for the IND vs. ZIM series, likely today

Image
The batsman of team India, Shubman Gill, who was there in the T20 World Cup squad as a reserve player, is in line to lead a young team for the IND vs. ZIM tour starting July 6. As per a report, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will miss the series. It looks like the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel also inquired with Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav about their availability, but both declined. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy, Tushar Deshpande, and Harshit Rana will be in the team for the IND vs. ZIM series as well. Players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rinku Singh, who are warming the bench for the T20 World Cup In-form openers of Sunrisers Hyderabad Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tushar Deshpande, and Harshit Rana, all regulars for their respective teams in the IPL, will board the flight to Zimbabwe, as will those on the bench during the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rinku Singh.

In the Super 8 Stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup, SA beat ENG by 7 runs.

Image
An amazing half century by Quinton de Kock and efforts by bowlers helped South Africa beat England by 7 runs in their Group 2 Super Eights match of the T20 World Cup here on Friday. Harry Brook made 53 off 37 balls, but there was not much contribution from other batters as the defending champions ended up at 156/6, chasing 164. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets apiece for SA. Earlier, De Kock made a forceful half-century, but South Africa was limited to 163 for six. De Kock made 65 in 38 balls, while David Miller (43, 28b) gave the South African innings the late impetus. For England, pacer Jofra Archer was the leading wicket-taker (3/40). Brief scores: South Africa, 163 for 6 in 20 overs (Quinton de Kock 65, David Miller 43, Adil Rashid 1/23, Jofra Archer 3/40), beat England, 156 for 6 in 20 overs (Harry Brook 53, Liam Livingstone 33, Keshav Maharaj 2/25, Kagiso Rabada 2/32), by 7 runs.

After four years, BCCI allows Afghanistan to play ‘home’ matches in India again

Image
In order to strengthen the cricket ties between India and the Afghanistan cricket team, the BCCI has granted permission for the Afghanistan cricket team to host its upcoming series against Bangladesh in India. Afghanistan will now play its "home" matches at the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, where they were last played four years ago. The white ball series is scheduled to be held in the months of July and August, where Bangladesh is going to face Afghanistan in three ODI and three T20 international matches. This is not the first time Team Afghanistan has called Greater Noida home. Afghanistan was granted permission under a memorandum of understanding to use this location for their matches back in 2015. In order to have practice sessions prior to their first ODI on July 25, the Bangladeshi team is scheduled to arrive in Greater Noida on July 22. The 27th and 30th of July will bring the remaining ODIs. August 2 is the start date of the Twenty20 I

Sehwag questions Pakistan's selection after Amir’s recall, implying favouritism

Image
The former opener of Indian Cricket Team VirendraSehwag has lashed out at the duo of Pakistan cricket team WahazRiaz and Mohammad Amir, who called time on his international cricket career last year, and is currently the chief selector of the Pakistan national men's selection committee. He was appointed to the role in November, which is a few months after Riaz took up the new role. Amir, who had also given up playing cricket for other countries, returned to the national squad. While highlighting the turn of events, Sehwag questioned the intent of Riaz as the head of the selection committee. Sehwag said during a discussion, “WahazRiaz and Mohammad Amir are the two names who used to give their opinions on Pakistan TV news channels against their national team. Now one of them is a selector, and the other is playing XI. They were criticizing the team once, and now that they have come to power, what are they doing?” Pointing at Wahaz, Sehwag remarked, "Let's take Amir on the

In the latest T20 ranking, Marcus Stoinis becomes the number one all-rounder

Image
The stay of Mohammad Nabi at the top of the ICC men’s all-rounder ranking has been cut short as the star all-rounder of Australia cricket team Marcus Stoinis has overpast him period some stunning performances in the ongoing season of the T20 World Cup. Stoinis bowled an amazing 2/9 spell against Namibia before his 59 off 29 came against Scotland in the last group stage match against Australia. His amazing form guided the Australia cricket team to the Super 8 of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2024. He had scored 156 runs at an amazing average of 78 and a superb strike rate of 190.24 in this tournament.  WaninduHasaranga and Shakib Al Hasan make up the top 3, while Nabi cams down to the fourth spot. There have been many shakes in the T20 bowling ranking as well. AkealHosein is the big move in this sector, as he passed six places in the ICC T20 bowling rankings into second, but Adil Rashid from England is still in the number one spot.

Indian Cricket Team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, to be interviewed today as the sole applicant

Image
The former cricketer of Team India, Gautam Gambhir, is set to appear for an interview today for the prestigious role of head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Remarkably, Gambhir is the only candidate who applied for the position. As per the report, the interview will be conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee over a Zoom call. The current head coach, Rahul Dravid, will step down after the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had invited applications for Dravid’s successor in mid-May, with the deadline set for May 27, the day following the IPL final. Gautam Gambhir, who is also the mentor for the IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders, brings a wealth of experience and success from his playing and mentoring roles. His candidacy will be evaluated by the CAC, which comprises former cricketers Ashok Malhotra, JatinParanjpe, and SulakshanaNaik. Following the interviews, the CAC will make their recommendations to the BCCI, which w

In the ICC T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka beat Netherlands by 83 runs

Image
The amazing knocks by KusalMendis and CharithAsalanka, followed by the equal contributions from the entire bowling unit of the Sri Lanka cricket team, helped them defeat the Netherlands by a huge margin of 83 runs in their T20 World Cup 2024, Group D match.  While chasing the target of 202 runs, the Netherlands cricket team started the proceedings on a good note, but the bowlers of Sri Lanka quickly bounced back and wrapped them up for 118. For Sri Lanka, NuwanThushara took three wickets, while captain WaninduHasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each. Apart from them, MaheeshTheekshana and DasunShanaka also took one wicket each. As Bangladesh defeated Nepal and entered the Super 8 stage, the Netherlands cricket team got knocked out of the race to the Super 8 stage.  Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 201 for 6 in 20 overs (KusalMendis 46, CharithAsalanka 46; Logan van Beek 2/45); Netherlands 118 all out in 16.4 overs (Michael Levitt 31, Scott Edwards 31, NuwanThushara 3/24).

IND vs CAN No place for Yashasvi Jaiswal or Virat Kohli to keep opening slot

Image
The highest run-scorer of the T20 World Cup 2022, Virat Kohli, who is also the premium batsman of India, has hit a rut. Even though Kohli was portrayed as the face of world cricket in his New York debut, the King returned disastrous numbers at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. But despite his poor form, he will retain his slot as the opener in the India vs. Canada clash. And that means Yashasvi Jaiswal will continue to warm the bench in IND vs. CAN, the last match in the USA for the India Cricket Team. Despite setting the IPL 2024 on fire, Kohli has only scored just 5 runs, making a combined 9 deliveries in three matches so far. The fact that he has yet to hit double digits should be a concern for Team India going into the Super 8. But what’s ailing King Kohli? One of the reasons why Virat Kohli has flopped so far is the nightmarish New York pitch. It gave batters no breathing room, with the highest total in New York being only 137, which Canada scored against Ireland.

Virat Kohli’s recent form in the T20 World Cup has been a cause for concern

Image
The poor form of Virat Kohli continued on Wednesday as he lost his wicket for a golden duck against the USA in New York. Since the start of the T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli has not been able to reach double-digit scores. Against Ireland, he was out for 1, while against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan, he could score just 4. The New York leg has thus seen Kohli score only five runs in three games. This was the second-ever golden duck for Kohli in T20Is and his first in the T20 World Cup. This is the sixth time that Kohli has lost his wicket for a duck in T20Is. He has not gotten a double-digit score in his last four T20I innings. When talking about the match, Despite the fighting knocks of Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar, a scintillating heavy dose of pace from Arshdeep Singh dominated the USA batters as India restricted their co-hosts to 110/8 in their Group A match in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. In the last over, the batters o

According to the report, the Indian cricket team first got gym membership in New York

Image
The T20 World Cup 2024, which is being held in the USA and West Indies, has been quite unique from several standpoints. From drop-in pitches being used to teams being made to train in the public parks, a lot of firsts have unfolded at this mega event in the USA.  However, unexpected turn-off events took place in New York, where the Indian cricket team is playing their group-A matches at the T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had to buy gym memberships for their players outside the hotel because the team was not happy with the facilities being provided inside the hotel.  According to the report, the players have been using gym facilities at a popular chain in the city, as the arrangement within the team hotel was not enough.  The report said, “Yes, the team does not use the hotel gym, and they have a membership at a gym nearby, and everyone uses that. It is a very popular gym chain.”

Bangladesh’s narrow loss to South Africa sparks the DRS debate

Image
On Monday, the match between South Africa and Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 turned out to be an absolute thriller, with the Proteas securing a narrow 4-run victory against the Bangladesh Tigers. Bangladesh appeared to be well-positioned to win the match, particularly considering that they only needed 27 runs in the final 4 overs to achieve the objective. However, a loophole in DRS worked in the favor of South Africa and resulted in Bangladesh being robbed of a boundary, which in the end turned out to be the difference-maker. All of this happened in the 17th over of the batting of Bangladesh, when Mahmudullah and TowidHridoy were in the middle. https://www.dadasports247.com/ Mahmudullah attempted a flick with the second ball of the over, but the ball struck his pads and flew to the boundary behind the stumps. Following a strong appeal by the South Africans, the umpire raised his finger, and the ball was deemed dead. Following a review by Bangladesh, DRS revealed that the ba

After Rohit Sharma injury scare in nets BCCI raises ‘unofficial’ complaint to ICC over pitch

Image
The preparations of Indian cricket team for their crucial T20 World Cup match against Pakistan have been disrupted by a fresh injury concern for captain Rohit Sharma and concerns about the practice pitch in New York. On Friday, while Rohit Sharma was practicing at Cantiague Park, a short distance from New York City, he took a blow on the thumb from bowling expert coach Nuwan. This incident occurred only a few days after an arm injury forced him to leave the game against Ireland. While the BCCI has not confirmed the severity of the injury, Rohit was attended to by a physiotherapist and his participation in the upcoming match vs Pakistan remains uncertain. The Rohit Sharma incident has brought attention to issues with the New York practice pitch. Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, reportedly struggled to bat because of the wicket's irregular bounce. These worries stem from low-scoring game between South Africa and Sri Lanka at the tournament's major venue, Nassau County

Scotland got a five-wicket victory over Namibia in their T20 World Cup 2024 match

Image
Captain effortless knock, along with Leask's all-round performance and Brad Pace, helped Scotland secure their five-wicket victory over Namibia in their T20 Cricket World Cup Group B game in Barbados on Thursday. The weather had hindered the Scots in their first game two days prior at this same location, but Berrington's dominant knock of 36 balls (two fours, three sixes) and Michael Leask's timely assistance (35 off 17 balls, four sixes) helped them to a winning total of 155 for five with nine balls remaining. Their joint effort in a fifth-wicket stand of 74 saw off Gerhard Erasmus's all-around efforts after the Namibian captain top-scored with 52 from 155 for nine, and then Scotland faltered at 73 for four in the eleventh over with figures of two for 29 off four overs. Brief scores: Scotland 157/5 (Richie Berrington 47*, Michael Leask 35, Gerhard Erasmus 2-29) against. Namibia 159/9 (Gerhard Erasmus 52, Brad Wheel 3-33, Bradley Currie 2-16)

T20 world cup in New York thrown in doubt; ICC speaks out on pitch controversy

Image
Despite the growing fear over the nature of the pitches in New York for the T20 World Cup, there have been no plans to shift the matches out of Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. A report from the BBC has said, “India has privately voiced their unhappiness with the unpredictable bounce and two-paced nature of the strips amid worries over the safety of their batters.” The match between the India and Pakistan cricket teams is going to be held in New York on Sunday. https://www.dadasports247.com/ The report further said, “The International Cricket Council is believed to be analyzing data from previously abandoned games to establish how to react should it need to act. However, ICC officials have maintained that there are no contingency plans in place to switch any of the New York games to venues in Florida or Texas, both of which have natural turf strips. “It is understood an unused pitch has been designated for the India vs. Pakistan showdown, although there is flexibility to al

An ex-New Zealand star gave a late Twist in India’s Playing XI

Image
Simon Doull, who is the former cricketer for New Zealand, is fulfilling his responsibility as a commentator in the T20 World Cup 2024. He gave an elate twist to the combination of team India, suggesting Yashasvi Jaiswal could be set to open with Rohit Sharma in the opening match of team India of the tournament against Ireland. Although it looks like Rohit and Virat would open for Team India in their first match of the campaign, Doull revealed a rumour that he heard about Jaiswal that changed everything. In a chat, Doull said, “My team would have Virat and Rohit opening in the batting; they are the two best players to do that at this point in time, Rishabh Pant as a left-hand alternative for a point differential at 3. Dube, Hardik, and Jadeja are at 5, 6, and 7, followed by SKY at 4. It just sits nicely for me, and the Indian line-up if they go down that road, I think it is the best way.” He went on, "They've given Jaiswal a lot of chances that would surprise me if they bro

Australia's T20 World Cup opener, Cameron Green says he “can jump in at many different roles”

Image
Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, despite a staggered arrival in the Caribbean after the Indian Premier League, believes the side is eager to play their first encounter against Oman at the T20 World Cup.  Green, who experienced a “quite ridiculous” amount of travel in 2023, said the 38-hour flight to join the Australian squad, which only resulted in one lost bag, was something he was now used to.  The all-rounder was given a few days at home in Perth after RCB were eliminated from the IPL a week ago, and his journey to Barbados was comparatively smooth compared to that of several of his teammates. Green told reporters after Australia’s training session on Monday, “Just one bag lost — my cricket bag — but it came the next day.  My trip was about 38 hours, while Starcy’s (Mitchell Starc) was about 60 hours. So overall happy.” Adjusting to the constant travel (or living out of a suitcase) helped him hit his stride towards the end of the IPL season. Despite a rough start, he became a ke

Kedar Jadhav announces his retirement from all formats of cricket

Image
On Monday, June 3, the all-rounder of the Indian cricket team, Kedar Jadhav, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The batter of the Mahabharata took to social media to share a post that was quite similar to MS Dhoni's retirement note on Instagram. Jadhav, who is friendly with Dhoni, also posted a slideshow of pictures from his career with background music by Kishore Kumar. In the post confirming his retirement, Kedar Jadhav said, "Thank you all for your love and support throughout my career from 1500 hrs. Consider me retired from all forms of cricket.” The announcement was almost the same as MS Dhoni's retirement note. On August 15, 2020, Dhoni shocked his fans by announcing his retirement with a two-line statement on his Instagram profile, a year after he played his last international game representing India in the England World Cup of 2019. Kedar Jadhav played 73 ODIs and 9 T20is for India between 2014 and 2020. Under MS Dhoni's leadership, the 3
