Mumbai squad for Irani Cup fixture 2024 against Rest of India

Mumbai has finalized their squad for the ZR Irani Cup as they are going to face the Rest of India from October 1 to 5, 2024, at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Ajinkya Rahane will captain a 16-member team that includes notable players such as Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, and Shardul Thakur. The Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed that Sarfaraz Khan could join the squad if not selected for the second Test against Bangladesh, which begins on September 27. The RoI team will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, with Abhimanyu Easwaran as vice-captain. Key players for RoI include wicketkeepers Dhruv Jurel and Ishan Kishan, with their participation contingent on their availability post-Test selection. India made History at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad

On September 22, 2024 For the first time in the history India has Clinched Gold in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest. This marks the first time India has clinched gold in this prestigious event. The men's team achieved a decisive 3.5-0.5 victory over Slovenia, finishing four points ahead of their competitors, with GMs GukeshDommaraju, Arjun Erigaisi, and PraggnanandhaaRameshbabu leading the charge. Simultaneously, the victory of women’s team against Azerbaijan with a similar scoreline, securing their gold after narrowly missing out in 2022. Both teams celebrated their historic win with a “Rohit Sharma walk” during the trophy presentation. This achievement places India among elite nations like the Soviet Union and China in chess history.

In a good news for Team India, star batsman Suryakumar Yadav will soon be in action, after missing the Duldeep Trophy for the first two rounds due to a thumb injury. According to a rumor, Surya will return to action in the third round matches. He will represent India C, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, when they take against India A starting on September 19. That also paves way for him play and lead Team India in the T20I series vs Bangladesh, that is slated to begin from October 6. Meanwhile, Suryakumar had suffered a thumb injury while playing for Mumbai in the BuchiBabu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. The T20I series will take center stage following the two match-Test series. Suryakumar Yadav shared a photo while driving from Bengaluru to Anantpur. ‘Next stop: Anantapur,’ he wrote on social media.
