India made History at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad

On September 22, 2024 For the first time in the history India has Clinched Gold in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Budapest. This marks the first time India has clinched gold in this prestigious event. The men's team achieved a decisive 3.5-0.5 victory over Slovenia, finishing four points ahead of their competitors, with GMs GukeshDommaraju, Arjun Erigaisi, and PraggnanandhaaRameshbabu leading the charge.

Simultaneously, the victory of women’s team against Azerbaijan with a similar scoreline, securing their gold after narrowly missing out in 2022. Both teams celebrated their historic win with a “Rohit Sharma walk” during the trophy presentation. This achievement places India among elite nations like the Soviet Union and China in chess history.
