T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan will arrive in the US in two groups as Babar Azam and Co. gear up

Image
The Pakistan cricket team is finally done with their T20 World Cup 2024 preparation. After playing two T20I series against Ireland and England, respectively, they will now travel to the United States to begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 6th. According to a report, the Pakistan contingent is due to depart for Dallas in two groups. One group will have 19 members, including cricketers, coaches, and support staff; the other group will have 9 members. Just two countries, including Pakistan, will begin their T20 World Cup campaign without engaging in any warm-up matches. They chose to play two T20I series instead, one against England and the other against Ireland. Ireland's three-match Twenty20 International series was won by Babar Azam's team. Despite losing the opening game, they bounced back in time to win the series 2-1. Babar Azam and his team faced a much tougher series in England. Two of the four-match series were washed away by rain, while England won the other t

For the T20 World Cup, Young Afghanistan Side 'Among the Favourites'

Image
A young Afghanistan cricket team with an average age of just 25 has vowed to give audiences back home rare cause for jubilation at the T20 World Cup after a breakthrough performance at the 50-over showpiece. When Afghanistan celebrated their stunning eight-wicket victory against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup in October, Kabul’s skies were raked with fireworks. They finished sixth, ahead of defending champions England, whom they also beat, stoking hopes for the T20 tournament in the United States and West Indies starting on Saturday. 22-year-old Sediqullah Atal said on the phone from their training camp in the West Indies, “In the past, when we would defeat a bigger team, our victory was tagged as an ‘upset’.”. “The word ‘upset’ is no longer in the dictionary, and we are ranked among the favorites,” the left-handed opening batsman said, insisting his team is “no less than anyone.”. Through years of conflict, cricket has been a steady source of passion for Afghanistan.

Ex-England spinner Graeme Swann expressed interest in becoming head coach of India

Image
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has started to look out for a new head coach for the men’s Indian cricket team because the time period of Rahul Dravid, who is currently the head coach of team India, is going to end with the conclusion of India’s campaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup. The final match of the event will take place on June 29th. BCCI has already started inviting applications for the role of head coach, with the deadline being May 27. Currently, the former opener of team India, Gautam Gambhir, seems to be the frontrunner for the role among the names that are surfacing, but now the former spinner of the England cricket team, Graeme Swann, has also shown his interest in the role. Swann said, “If India asked me to become their coach, I would do it in a heartbeat. I love this place.” He further said that he was an incredible coach for England when I played; he took us to number one in the world and was the best coach I have played under. India would be lucky to have him.

Dinesh Karthik credits RCB fans above Virat Kohli in his final IPL interview

Image
The career of one of the most important players came to an end with the exit of Royal Challenges Bangalore from the Indian Premier League in 2024. Dinesh Karthik, when he emerged in the Indian cricket scene, was seen as a very talented wicketkeeper-batter. However, with the rise of MS Dhoni, Karthik went into the shadows. But then his persistence paid off, and he made a comeback to the team during the latter stages of his career. In the cash-rich league, he featured for teams like the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.  But his recent exploits were in RCB colours. In fact, he made a comeback for the 2022 T20 World Cup team on the back of some terrific performances for RCB. Dinesh Karthik said in a video posted by RCB on X, “RCB have been extraordinary. I think RCB basically means the fans. There is nothing else I can think of when I think of RCB. Yes, Virat Kohli is a very, very big name. Very large part of RCB. But I think the fans are even bigger than that. Literally, because

After the loss against RR Faf du Plessis, Points Out Reason

Image
After losing the eliminator match of the Indian Premier League season 2024, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis, feels that his team needed to score a few more runs to make it a competitive total. However, he praised his team for fighting till the end against Rajasthan Royals in the knockout match. Faf du Plessis said in a post-match presentation, “With the dew coming, we felt we were short with the bat. I thought we were 20 runs shy of a good score. Credit goes to the boys; they fought really well. That’s all you can ask for. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch and conditions, you would say it’s a 180 pitch because it was swinging upfront and was quite slow.” He further added, “To come back like that, six games in a row, takes a lot of heart and character. We weren’t special tonight in terms of pushing those extra 20 runs with the bat.”

In the T20 World Cup, Ricky Ponting backs Virat Kohli to open with Rohit Sharma

Image
Former legendary player of Australia Ricky Ponting reckons the selectors should opt for Virat Kohli to open with Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup. The coach of Delhi backed Kohli to perform well in the marquee tournament, terming him as a player who gave his best in big games. Ponting added that Indian fans were always looking for an excuse to leave the batting virtuoso off the team or to argue that he wasn't as brilliant as the rest. Left-hand hitters are something the selectors don't have a lot of on their team, thus Ponting stated, "They still have a decision to make with Jaiswal in that squad." He continued, "They have to decide with Jaiswal, but I'm pretty sure they'll start with Rohit Sharma and Kohli." "With Virat, it's humorous. He remarked, "I believe that people in India simply always look for an excuse to not choose him or a reason why he might not be as excellent as some of these other men in the T20 game. While conclud

Afghanistan roped in the bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings for the T20 World Cup 2024

Image
The Cricket Board of Afghanistan has pulled off a major signing by appointing legendary all-rounder of the West Indies Dwayne Bravo as their ‘Bowling Consultant’ for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This is a significant boost for the Afghan team, as they look to make a strong impression in the Caribbean and USA.Bravo is a household name in world cricket and a proven winner.  He has been a key member of the West Indies’ two T20 World Cup victories in 2012 and 2016. His experience playing in high-pressure situations and his vast cricketing knowledge will be invaluable to the young Afghan bowling attack. The T20 experience of Bravo is a major boost for Afghanistan.  Having spent his career bowling on pitches with similar pace and bounce, Bravo can guide the bowlers of the Afghanistan cricket team, especially the fast bowlers, to exploit these conditions effectively. His knowledge regarding the Caribbean pitches would be a great help for the Rashid Khan-led side, which could be a real dark

For most sixes in an IPL season, Abhishek Sharma breaks Virat Kohli’s record

Image
The IPL season 2024 keeps getting better for the young Abhishek Sharma, who has stamped his authority to become one of the most explosive batters. His knock of 66 against the Punjab Kings has now given him the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian within a season of the IPL. His 66 runs came in just 28 balls to give SRH the start they needed after his opening partner, Travis Head, was out on the very first ball of the inning. Stabilising the chase of 215 against PBKS, Abhishek Sharma managed to strike six sixes in his innings to take the record. MOST SIXES BY AN INDIAN IN AN IPL SEASON • Abhishek Sharma with 41 sixes for SRH in 2024. • Virat Kohli with 38 sixes for RCB in 2016. • Rishabh Pant with 37 sixes for DC in 2018 • Virat Kohli with 37 sixes for RCB in 2024. • Shivam Dube with 35 sixes for CSK in 2023. However, Virat Kohli is not too far behind, and it will be a battle between Abhishek and Kohli for the title as both teams are set to go into the playoffs, where the teams wi

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit's 'Win the Trophy' Remark

Image
To the start of the T20 World Cup 2024, Less than half a month remains. The mega event that will take place in the USA and West Indies is set to start on June 1. Team India, which will continue its prolonged quest for a major ICC title in 11 years, is set to start its campaign on June 5 with a match against Ireland.  Ahead of the mega event, Team India skipper Rohit passed on a solid message during a recent interview. While speaking to Dubai Eye 103.8’s YouTube channel, he said that the game is not about personal milestones and stats. After replacing Virat Kohli in the role, Rohit, who took over as India captain, is set to lead the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup. “When I took over as India’s captain, I just wanted everyone to drive in one direction, and that’s how team sports should be played. It is not about personal milestones and personal stats and goals; it is about what 11 of us can bring to the table and win the trophy,” said Rohit. There were a lot of doubts that Rohit m

Ahead of the IPL 2024 playoffs, Dhruv Jurel reveals he has recovered from a hamstring injury

Image
The wicketkeeper-batter for the Rajasthan Royals, DhruvJurel, disclosed that he sustained a hamstring injury during the current IPL 2024. Jurel emphasised the seriousness of the injury, stating that if he hadn’t missed a game, it might have gotten worse. The 22-year-old did not play for RR against DC on May 7 and came on as an impact substitute on May 12 against CSK. Jurel said, “I had a hamstring injury that could have worsened if I kept playing, so I took off in the middle. Last game, I also played as an impact sub so that there wouldn’t be a lot of fielding. Now I’m feeling much better.” During the match against SRH in Hyderabad, Jurel had to hobble off the field, giving RR a serious injury scare. When Jurel attempted to block Travis Head’s shot off Yuzvendra Chahal at the boundary line, he ended up spraining his hamstring.

Sourav Ganguly feels Rishabh Pant is an instinctive captain

Image
The director of the Delhi capital, Saurav Ganguly, feels Rishabh Pant is an instinctive captain, and his leadership skills will refine with time and experience. He returned to competitive cricket after a painstakingly long rehab following a horrific car crash in December 2022. The 26-year-old resumed his duties as the Delhi Capitals captain. Ganguly said, "Pant is a young captain; he'll learn with time. The way he returned from injury to play a full season, we had our doubts during the off-season.” Ganguly also added, "Indian players are crucial, especially since the TATA IPL shifted to 10 teams. I am very happy for him that he returned to play so well over a full season. He has all my well wishes for whatever is next.” Pant has time and again showcased his astute captaincy during the IPL, while he has also erred in his decisions a few times. "With time, he'll become a better captain. Nobody is a great captain from day one, but he is an instinctual captain; he ma

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav leave as Hardik Pandya comes to bat

Image
In the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024, there seems to be a big disconnect in the Mumbai Indians camp. The captaincy change saga has had big ripple effects on the performance of the team, and the implications seem to be huge.  While there were already suggestions of two groups within the MI camp, it has now been reported that Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya aren’t even practicing with each other in the middle. Narrating a recent event, a report claimed that the trio of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma got up and left Hardik to bat in the nets. As per the report, Hardik and Rohit haven’t practiced together much in this IPL. Ahead of the match against KKR, which MI lost, Rohit was spotted batting in the nets first. Then, Hardik wasn’t around. After this as Rohit was sitting on the sidelines with Suryakumar and Tilak Varma, Hardik came out to bat in the nets. Seeing him come out to bat, all three of Rohit, Surya, and Tilak said they had gotten up and gone to the other sid

After a year, Sourav Ganguly extends an olive branch to Virat Kohli

Image
During Sunday's Indian Premier League game between the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a touching moment of reconciliation was witnessed by the cricket community. This occurs precisely a year after a heated exchange between BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and former Indian captain Virat Kohli sparked rumors of a breach between the two. The removal of Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy in 2021 by the BCCI, then led by Ganguly, sparked a public controversy. There were apparently disagreements between Kohli and the board's management as a result of this choice. The relationship was further strained when Kohli subsequently gave up his position as Test captain in the beginning of 2022. When Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, the DC director of cricket at the time, exchanged cold looks during the IPL 2023 season, it was clear that tension existed. They even reportedly avoided a post-match handshake. But when Kohli and Ganguly shook hands fo

Jay Shah says Ajit Agarkar dropped Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the BCCI contract list

Image
The Board of Control for Cricket in India had drafted new player contracts a few months prior. There were two notable names missing from the new contracts: Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar made the decision to remove the two from the list of retainers, as BCCI secretary Jay Shah has now revealed. Their inability to play domestic cricket was the primary factor in this severe decision. Iyer sustained an injury following the second IND vs. ENG test, while Ishan Kishan had left the Indian squad to take a break. To everyone's surprise, however, the pair chose to defy Jay Shah and Rahul Dravid's directives to not participate for the Ranji Trophy. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are two players who did not play domestic cricket, but it was Ajit Agarkar's choice to remove them from the central contract list. All I have to do is execute. Sanju Samson is one of the new guys we have on the team. No one is necessary, according to Shah.
