In the T20 World Cup, Ricky Ponting backs Virat Kohli to open with Rohit Sharma

Former legendary player of Australia Ricky Ponting reckons the selectors should opt for Virat Kohli to open with Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup. The coach of Delhi backed Kohli to perform well in the marquee tournament, terming him as a player who gave his best in big games.

Ponting added that Indian fans were always looking for an excuse to leave the batting virtuoso off the team or to argue that he wasn't as brilliant as the rest. Left-hand hitters are something the selectors don't have a lot of on their team, thus Ponting stated, "They still have a decision to make with Jaiswal in that squad."

He continued, "They have to decide with Jaiswal, but I'm pretty sure they'll start with Rohit Sharma and Kohli." "With Virat, it's humorous. He remarked, "I believe that people in India simply always look for an excuse to not choose him or a reason why he might not be as excellent as some of these other men in the T20 game. While concluding his statement, Ponting adds, Kohli is the first pick for me for India. He can play his role at the top.

Additionally, Rohit Sharma will have a high strike rate if he surrounds himself with players who can score, such as Suryakumar Yadav. These other guys can go in there and play their way.
