Yastika Bhatia Officially Ruled Out of WPL 2026 Ahead of Season Campaign
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been officially ruled out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season, dealing a significant blow to her franchise, the Gujarat Giants, and leaving fans and teammates disappointed ahead of the tournament. Bhatia, who underwent ACL surgery in October 2025, had been carrying fitness concerns leading up to the season and was always considered a doubt for the campaign.
The Gujarat Giants confirmed the news on January 10, 2026,
with team head coach Michael Klinger addressing the situation in a video
message shared on social media. Klinger extended his heartfelt support to the
star batter, wishing her a strong and speedy recovery and expressing hope that
she would return to competitive cricket fully fit in future seasons.
Bhatia was picked by the Gujarat Giants at the WPL 2026
auction for ₹50 lakhs despite her ongoing injury doubts, after previously
representing the Mumbai Indians in earlier seasons where she played an
important role in their batting line-up. However, due to the Board of Control
for Cricket in India (BCCI) rules, the franchise won’t be allowed to sign a
replacement player for her in the current campaign.
Although she won’t be featured on the field this season,
Bhatia remains with the squad in Navi Mumbai and is expected to support her
teammates from the stands. Her absence will be felt especially in the
wicketkeeping department and the batting lineup, where she has provided
stability and experience over the years.
The setback adds to the challenges faced by the Giants as
they aim for their maiden WPL title. Fans and pundits alike are watching
closely to see how the team adapts its strategy without one of India’s
prominent women cricketers. Behind her absence lies a strong undercurrent of
support wishing Bhatia well on her road to recovery.
