Najmul Hossain Shanto Returns to Bangladesh T20 Squad for Asian Games 2026

Bangladesh have recalled former T20 captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to their squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a strong 15-member squad, with Shanto making his return to the shortest format after being out of the T20 setup for more than a year.

Shanto's comeback comes on the back of impressive performances in international cricket, including Bangladesh's historic Test success against Australia. His experience and stability at the top of the order are expected to strengthen the Tigers' batting lineup as they aim for a medal-winning campaign at the continental event.




Regular T20I skipper Litton Das will lead the side, while Towhid Hridoy has been named vice-captain. Fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Hasan Mahmud have also returned to the squad, giving Bangladesh a balanced mix of youth and experience.

Bangladesh, who secured a bronze medal at the previous Asian Games, have been granted direct entry into the knockout stage alongside India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The tournament will be played in T20 format, with Bangladesh looking to challenge for gold this time around.

A white-ball series between the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is being discussed for October. According to Cricbuzz, the three-ODI and numerous T20I series is expected to begin in Dubai in the first half of October because both teams have international commitments in the second half of the month. Afghanistan will tour Zimbabwe at the same time, while Bangladesh will host the West Indies on their home ground for a full-fledged series.
