Tim David Suspended for First Match of IPL 2027 After Code of Conduct Breach

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been suspended for the opening match of IPL 2027 after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans. The Australian all-rounder was fined 50% of his match fee and handed two demerit points for aggressively throwing an ice bag in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon during the high-pressure final.

The incident occurred in the 10th over of the first innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Match officials found David guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing equipment or objects in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match. David accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.

The latest offence took David's tally to five demerit points during the IPL 2026 season, automatically triggering a one-match suspension under IPL regulations. Earlier in the season, he had already been penalized for disciplinary breaches, including an obscene gesture and disobeying an umpire's instruction.

While the suspension casts a shadow over RCB's successful IPL 2026 campaign, the franchise will now have to begin its IPL 2027 title defense without one of its key finishers. If David represents another franchise next season, the suspension will apply to that team's first match instead.
