Vijay Shankar Retires from Indian Domestic Cricket and IPL
Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has officially announced his retirement from Indian domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), bringing an end to a career that spanned over a decade across formats. The 35-year-old revealed that he is stepping away to “pursue new opportunities” and continue playing cricket in different capacities.
Shankar, who represented India in 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is between 2018 and 2019, was notably part of India’s 2019 ODI World Cup squad. Known for his all-round abilities with both bat and ball, he became memorable for taking a wicket with his very first ball in a World Cup match.
Throughout his domestic and IPL journey, Vijay featured for teams including Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans. He also played a key role in domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu before switching to Tripura for the 2025–26 season.
In his retirement message, Shankar expressed gratitude to the BCCI, teammates, and fans, calling representing India one of the proudest moments of his life. His exit marks the end of a significant chapter for one of India’s dependable domestic all-rounders.
