Jasprit Bumrah Rested for Afghanistan Test, Rahul Takes Over as Vice-Captain

India have opted to rest pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, with the selectors focusing on workload management ahead of a packed international calendar. The decision also sees a leadership reshuffle as KL Rahul replaces Rishabh Pant as India’s Test vice-captain.

The move signals a strategic shift by the team management under captain Shubman Gill, with Rahul’s experience and previous leadership role believed to have influenced the decision. Meanwhile, Pant faces a setback after losing the deputy role, though selectors have reiterated their faith in his red-ball abilities.

India’s squad for the Afghanistan Test also features fresh faces, giving emerging talent an opportunity while senior players are managed carefully. The one-off Test is scheduled for early June, with the ODI series to follow later in the month.
