Sanjog Gupta appointed as ICC's new Chief Executive Officer

Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the next CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC). On July 7, 2025, Gupta will assume leadership, becoming the 8th CEO in the worldwide governing body’s history.

At JioStar, Gupta is the CEO of Sports & Live Experiences. He has more than 20 years of expertise in the media, entertainment, and sports industries. He started out as a journalist before joining Star India in 2010. He went on to hold a number of senior positions in strategy and content before joining Disney & Star India in 2020 as Head of Sports. Following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star, he was named CEO of JioStar Sports in 2024.

“I am pleased to announce that Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the CEO of the ICC,” stated Jay Shah, the chairman of the ICC. “The ICC will greatly benefit from Sanjog’s vast experience in sports strategy and marketing.

Our goal to expand cricket in the upcoming years will be greatly aided by his profound knowledge of international sports and the M&E environment, as well as his ongoing interest in the viewpoint and excitement for technology of cricket fans. By breaking down conventional barriers and making cricket a regular Olympic sport, we hope to expand cricket’s global reach and strengthen its position in its main markets.

The Nominations Committee unanimously nominated Sanjog for this role after considering a number of outstanding applicants. I welcome him on behalf of the whole ICC, and the ICC Board of Directors looks forward to working closely with him.

According to the ICC, the selection comes after a global hiring process that attracted over 2,500 submissions from applicants in 25 countries and was started in March 2025. A Nominations Committee comprising ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, ECB Chair Richard Thompson, SLC President Shammi Silva, and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia evaluated the 12 names that the ICC’s HR & Remuneration Committee had shortlisted. After a thorough review, the ICC Board unanimously supported Gupta’s nomination.

ICC CEO-designate Sanjog Gupta said, “It is an honor to have this opportunity, particularly at a time when cricket is poised for unprecedented growth and enjoys the passionate support of almost 2 billion fans worldwide.” As major events gain prominence, commercial opportunities expand, and opportunities like the women’s game gain popularity, these are exciting times for the sport. The addition of cricket to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the quickening pace of technological adoption and deployment may serve as catalysts for the global cricket movement.

I’m excited to help shape cricket’s future, broaden its worldwide reach, improve the fan experience, and collaborate closely with ICC Member Boards to strengthen our solid foundations.
