Phil Simmons cancels his Sri Lankan tour, For medical reasons.
Phil Simmons, the head coach of Bangladesh, will leave Sri Lanka on Friday to travel to London to meet with doctors. There were rumors that BCB president Aminul Islam was calling the head coach to execute a performance review of the coaches because Simmons had an appointment with doctors in the UK.
The former West Indian opener is expected to return to Sri
Lanka on July 7, so Simmons should be able to play the third ODI of the series.
Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 Internationals following the ODI series.
Team manager Nafees Iqbal announced on Friday that Phil
Simmons would be doing a two-day personal tour. Due to the Champions Trophy, he
was not able to attend his February doctor's checkup. It is now impossible to change
the doctor's appointment. He attempted to alter the appointment, but for some
reason he was unable to do so. He discussed this with the board (meeting with
the doctors) before the tour's starting and made the necessary arrangements.
He will return on July 7th, having left today.
Bangladesh lost the second Test and hence the two-match series after playing well in the first Test that finished in a draw. They have
failed to get into a rhythm. They lost the first ODI of the three-game series
after a stunning collapse.
