James Anderson and Rocky Flintoff were selected as wildcards at the Hundred

James Anderson, an experienced bowler for England, was able to play franchise cricket after years of playing for his country. The fast bowler has been selected as the Manchester Originals’ wildcard selection pick. He will turn 43 five days before the 2025 edition begins on July 5. The ‘wildcard draft’ rule was instituted by the ECB, allowing teams to add two players to their rosters from individuals who were not selected in the regular player draft.

Anderson played domestic T20 cricket this year with the Lancashire Lightning in the T20 Blast for the first time in eleven years. Anderson has already claimed 14 wickets in the eight games of the current competition, including a three-for in his comeback game.

“I’m thrilled to be a member of the Manchester Originals team, and I’m really excited for The Hundred,” Anderson remarked of his acquisition. Working with Lancashire this season has been enjoyable, so I’m excited about the opportunity to help out in the Hundred.

“Watching this competition has been a lot of fun. The fact that the games draw a slightly different crowd—many families and younger people—is evident when you attend, and it is really crucial for our game. I’m eager to get out there.

Rocky Flintoff, the 17-year-old son of former all-rounder Andrew, who coaches the squad in the Hundred, has been signed by the Northern Superchargers. Although Rocky hasn’t played in a Twenty20 match, he recently made an impression for England U-19 against India U-19, striking a century in the 50-over format and a 93 in the youth Test.

The six teams made a total of 32 wildcard signings, two for each of the Hundred and Women’s Hundred. The sole foreign player selected is Hilton Cartwright of Australia, who was brought in to replace Faf du Plessis at Southern Brave after the latter withdrew from the tournament due to injury. Jason Roy was also brought in by Brave.
