ICC T20I rankings: Bell is ranked fourth in bowling charts, and Mandhana is ranked third among batsmen.
Smriti Mandhana, who is rated #1 among players in the ICC ODI rankings for women, defeated England in the opening match of the series with a game-winning 62-ball 112, overcoming Tahlia McGrath to take third place on the T20I table. The England speedster Lauren Bell, who finished 3 for 27, was the other major player following the game. She dethroned India's Renuka Thakur and teammate Sophie Ecclestone to get up to No. 4.
In her 149th appearance in the format, Mandhana scored her
first T20I century with a score of 112. She also achieved her highest career
rating of 771 points. Table-topper Beth Mooney is well away with 794 points,
but No. 2 Hayley Matthews is only three rating points ahead and easily within
Mandhana's grasp when England India play their second Twenty20 International on
Tuesday.
Shafali Verma, who made a comeback to India's T20I XI and
teamed with Mandhana at the top in the opening match after being dropped in the
previous T20I in October 2024, also rose to No. 13 after scoring 20 in 22 balls
and appearing rather rusty.
Harleen Deol, who hit 43 in 23 balls, also returned to the
rankings at joint-86th. Deol had fallen out of the standings and hadn't
participated in a T20I since July 2023.
There is a bit of a traffic jam at the top of the table as a
result of Bell's ascent in the bowlers' rankings. With 746 rating points, Sadia
Iqbal of Pakistan leads the field, but Bell is only 19 points behind, with
Australia's Annabel Sutherland (736 points) and India's Deepti Sharma (735
points) ahead of her. In actuality, Bell, Ecclestone (725), and Deepti are all
just one strong performance away from taking the top spot.
