Deepti Sharma leaves Women's Hundred in order to handle her workload.
In order to manage her schedule, Deepti Sharma left the 2025 season after winning London Spirit’s first Hundred title with a straight six in the final at Lord’s last year.
The Indian all-rounder, Deepti, is currently in England as part of India’s tour. He has a hectic schedule lately, balancing franchise leagues and duty abroad. In order to afford herself a brief respite, she has chosen to terminate her £36,000 contract in advance of the 50-over World Cup on home soil later this year.
The Australian all-rounder Charli Knott has taken her position, and Spirit’s team will look very different this year. Grace Harris has taken Meg Lanning’s place as head coach, Chris Liddle has taken Ashley Noffke’s role, and Charlie Dean will take Heather Knight’s place as captain due to her injury.
Charli Knott, an Australian all-rounder, has taken her position, and Spirit’s team will look very different this year. Grace Harris has replaced Meg Lanning as captain, Chris Liddle has replaced Ashley Noffke as head coach, and Charlie Dean will fill in as captain in lieu of Heather Knight, who is injured.
Deepti’s withdrawal means that there aren’t any Indian players under contract in the Hundred this year. Active men’s players are not granted No-Objection Certificates by the BCCI to participate in foreign leagues, and women’s players who participated in the past were either undrafted or unavailable because of workload issues.
In other news, Ash Gardner has been confirmed as the Trent Rockets’ captain for the upcoming campaign. Gardner said it was “an honor” to succeed Nat Sciver-Brunt, who resigned the position to reduce her workload after becoming the England leader.
Following Lewis Gregory’s release and signing with Manchester Originals, David Willey will replace Gregory as Rockets captain in the men’s Hundred. Willey, who was a £200,000 draft pick, has played for Welsh Fire for the past two years. He has also held short-term captaincy positions with Northamptonshire, Yorkshire, and Northern Superchargers.
Next week, each Hundred team will bolster their roster with four “wildcard” players—two men and two women—based on their T20 Blast performances. Derbyshire seamer Harry Moore, who suffered a back stress fracture, has been replaced by Nottinghamshire’s Freddie McCann for the Birmingham Phoenix ahead of the wildcard draft.
The Hundred, which takes place from August 5 to August 31, is seen as a transitional season before the ECB transfers operational control of the eight teams to their host nations and new private investors in preparation for the 2026 competition.
