Gautam Gambhir offers a stop to the rumors that Rishabh Pant's hundreds
When questioned about the positives of the first Test loss to England, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir looked unimpressed to praise individual genius like Rishabh Pant's twin hundreds, stating that it all comes down to outcomes, which his team was unable to attain.
Gambhir, who never holds back when answering questions about
how it felt to see vice skipper Pant's spectacular knocks that eventually
failed to change the outcome of the match for India, responded in a pretty
confrontational manner.
"There are still three hundred years left. They are
also quite beneficial. He responded to a direct query about Pant with a single
sentence: "Thank you."
Gambhir responded, "I would have liked if you said
there was a hundred from Yashasvi (Jaiswal), hundred from Shubman (Gill) on
debut as captain," when asked about the overall positives.
"To be honest, five centuries in a Test match is a
fantastic start, especially considering that KL (Rahul) had a hundred and
Rishabh had two hundreds. Additionally, he said, "I hope the question
could have been better."
However, if the outcome is a loss, the coach stated that
individual performances are not very important. India set England a challenging
target of 371 but lost by five wickets.
We also had a fifer from Jasprit Bumrah, which is another
fantastic plus. In the end, it all comes down to the fact that we go out there
and get the outcomes," he stated.
"Yes, individual performances are strong, but we still
want our top six and seven players from this Test match to make those massive
runs. However, you go out there to win a Test match in the end.
Regretfully, it was not the outcome. He continued, "So
we take it on the chin and go on."
