IPL 2025 suspended amid heightened Indo-Pak tension
A temporary suspension has been placed on the remaining
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 games. According to Cricbuzz, the decision
comes after a high-stakes meeting of the top brass of the Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI), and it was made against the backdrop of increased
border tensions between India and Pakistan.
It is acknowledged that before this decision was made, a
number of options, including a potential venue change, were considered. The
word has been distributed to all franchises and other interested parties, but a
formal announcement is scheduled.
The development follows the suspension of the Punjab Kings
vs. Delhi Capitals game in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 8, and coincides with
rising concerns among international players. After considering all of their
options, the BCCI seems to have decided on a temporary suspension in order to
protect everyone's safety and interests.
The safety of the stakeholders' activities was one of the
first worries. Transporting all IPL participants—teams, players, broadcast
crews, and other league employees—from Dharamsala to New Delhi while
maintaining the highest level of secrecy is the goal. The participants have not
been informed of where they will catch the train to Delhi from, but they were
instructed to board the bus at their lodgings in Dharamsala. As of this
writing, they are on the bus and have not been told where they are going.
Arun Dhumal, the IPL chairman, had previously declared that
the government would be consulted before any more decisions were taken.
"We're looking into the matter. It is changing, and as of yet, the
government has not given us any directives. All logistical factors and the
interests of all parties involved would be taken into account before making any
decisions," Dhumal stated.
