This break marks Gambhir’s first since leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy in Dubai last month, where they secured their first ICC title since 2013 by defeating South Africa. While IPL teams vie for playoff positions, Gambhir is preparing for India’s challenging five-test tour of England in June 2025, a series crucial for the team after recent setbacks against New Zealand and Australia.

Some fans question whether Gambhir should be scouting talent during the IPL, although his absence will not hinder selectors and management from fulfilling that role.
