For India Test Australia, call up uncapped all-rounder Webster
Beau Webster has been added to the Australia squad for the upcoming Test against India as a cover for Mitch Marsh. This marks Webster’s first international call-up, following an impressive performance in red-ball cricket, including a strong showing in the two-match series against India A, where he scored 145 runs at an average of 72.50 and took seven wickets.
The 30-year-old all-rounder expressed his excitement about
receiving the call-up, stating, “To get a few runs and wickets for Australia A
was pleasing against a strong Indian side.” He emphasized the importance of
playing “A” cricket as it prepares players for the Test level. Webster was
informed of his selection after the New South Wales Shield game, describing it
as a proud moment.
Webster’s inclusion provides Australia with additional depth
in their pace attack, especially considering Marsh’s injury concerns. Marsh
bowled 17 overs in the Perth Test but has faced fitness issues recently. With
over 5,000 first-class runs and nearly 150 wickets to his name, Webster is
ready to contribute as Australia looks to bounce back from their heavy defeat
in the first Test. The second Test begins on December 6 in Adelaide.
