Both Hayden and Border Slammed Australia Tactics against Virat in 1st Test Match

Australian cricket legends Allan Border and Matthew Hayden expressed serious concerns about the team’s handling of Virat Kohli during India’s commanding 295-run victory in the first Test in Perth. Kohli scored an unbeaten century in the second innings, marking his first Test hundred in 18 months.

Border criticized Australia’s approach, stating, “I was really disappointed in the way we let Kohli roll on to a hundred without much resistance,” emphasizing that a confident Kohli could be detrimental for the rest of the series.

Hayden echoed these sentiments, noting that Australia missed opportunities to apply pressure early in Kohli’s innings, allowing him to settle in too easily. He also pointed out the delayed use of short-pitched bowling against Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had shown vulnerability to that tactic.

Both former players highlighted the need for better planning and execution to counter India’s batting lineup in upcoming Tests. They warned that if Kohli remains confident, he could significantly influence the outcome of the five-match series.
