After controversial KL Rahul dismissal, Sanjay Manjrekar blasts DRS for “poor supply of technology”

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was visibly upset with KL Rahul’s controversial dismissal during Day 1 of the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. At lunch, Manjrekar expressed his frustration over the Decision Review System (DRS) and the limited technology used in the incident. He criticized the system for failing to provide conclusive evidence, noting that only two frames were shown before the decision was made.

Manjrekar pointed out that later replays clearly showed the bat hitting the pads, which caused the spike on the Snicko meter, rather than the ball hitting the bat. He was particularly displeased with the broadcasters, claiming that the technology supplied to DRS was inadequate. “Disappointed with the frames that were provided. It was a poor supply of technology,” Manjrekar stated during his discussion after the lunch break.

He further explained that if there had been an edge between the ball and bat, Snicko would have shown two spikes, but only one appeared. “Maybe the umpire didn’t check further,” Manjrekar added, clearly exasperated with the decision-making process.

The controversy surrounding KL Rahul’s dismissal has since sparked widespread criticism, overshadowing the first day of the opening Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Many have called the decision “obnoxious” and questioned the reliability of the DRS in such crucial moments.
