New Zealand beat South Africa by 32 runs in T20 WC Finals

New Zealand’s women’s cricket team has made history by winning their maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 32 runs in the final held in Dubai on October 20, 2024. This victory marks a significant achievement for New Zealand, who had previously struggled in international tournaments.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a competitive total of 158 runs, with Amelia Kerr contributing a crucial 43 runs and Brooke Halliday adding 38. South Africa, in pursuit of the target, struggled against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack and could only manage 126 runs in their 20 overs. Kerr was instrumental with the ball as well, taking three wickets for 24 runs.

This win is particularly remarkable considering New Zealand entered the tournament with ten consecutive T20I losses. Their triumph not only highlights their resurgence in women’s cricket but also signifies a shift in power dynamics within the sport, as they join South Africa in challenging the traditional dominance of teams like Australia and England.
