Cricket Australia decides to uplift lifetime ban from David Warner

Cricket Australia has officially lifted David Warner’s lifetime leadership ban, effective immediately. This decision comes after an independent three-member review panel, which included cricketing legends Greg Chappell and Kane Williamson, determined that Warner had fulfilled all necessary conditions for the ban’s removal.

Warner was initially banned in 2018 following his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal during the Test series against South Africa, known as the “sandpaper-gate” incident. The lifting of the ban allows Warner to potentially take on leadership roles within the Australian cricket team once again.



David warner had lodged an appeal to Cricket Australia and now after review, it was determined that a “unanimous view that he was sincere and genuine in acknowledging responsibility for the conduct and in his statement that he had extreme remorse for his conduct”.

“The contribution that Mr Warner has made, and can make in the future, towards the development of young cricketers in Australia if they were given the opportunity to be led by Mr Warner, his important continuing role in fostering interest in cricket especially with the South Asian community in Australia and generally,” the panel further added.
