Ahead of T20 World Cup selection Shivam Dube opens up on spending sleepless nights
All-rounder Shivam Dube instantly shot to prominence in the Indian T20 World Cup squad after a brilliant season with the five-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings. Having made his debut for Indian cricket team in November 2019, Dube has participated in 21 T20 Internationals. On Tuesday, the BCCI selected the team for the T20 World Cup, ushering in a new phase in the 30-year-old’s already bright career.
During the current IPL 2024, Shivam Dube has gathered three half-centuries and put on a great show with his big-hitting, amassing 350 runs at an average of 58.33 and a strike-rate of 172.41. Although Dube can produce breakthroughs with his military medium pace and excellent bowling skills, the Impact Player rule hasn't allowed him to do so yet. Dube claimed he was constantly worried about being chosen, which kept him up at night.
The CSK all-rounder discussed what captain Rohit Sharma said to him during the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan earlier this year in January in a video that the BCCI released.
The interview was conducted before the fifteen-member Indian squad was revealed. Rohit seemed to have a gut feeling that Dube would make it to the final 15. Dube stated, "There are numerous." I keep thinking about it and can't sleep. Upon my arrival for the Afghanistan series, Rohit bhai informed me that "batting bhi milega tere ko, bowling bhi daalega." All you need to do is demonstrate your abilities. That's what I was concentrating on because it inspires you when the captain says they want to see you perform. During the game, my only concern was improving my performance and supporting my team.
