A T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan creates a ticket frenzy in New York

An unprecedented amount of excitement is surrounding the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean, with the much awaited match between India and Pakistan in New York igniting frenzy. Tickets were priced as low as $6 (INR 497) during the official sale, but the resale market shows a different story, with prices reaching outrageous heights.

India vs. Pakistan and India vs. Canada matches, for example, have become rare gems that vanish during the official sale only to resurface at exorbitant costs on resale sites like StubHub and SeatGeek. Some of the tickets are being sold for far more than their original price, with others being offered for at least twice as much.


For example, the official website lists VIP seats for the India vs. Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup match at $400 (INR 33 thousand) (without taxes). However, comparable seats are posted for an astounding $40,000 (INR 33 lakhs) on resale sites! With platform fees, the total almost reaches $50,000 (INR 41 lakhs), which is the same price as courtside NBA Finals tickets!

Even the "cheapest" ticket available for resale for the India vs. Pakistan match game is too expensive; on StubHub, it now costs about $1,259 (INR 1.04 lakhs). The lowest price on SeatGeek is $1,166 (INR 96k), which is marginally less than the original price but still far more than the original. The cost of attending other major athletic events in the USA is comparable to these resale costs.

The average price of a Super Bowl 58 ticket was $9,000 (INR 7.45 lakh) and the average World Series ticket was approximately $1,100 (INR 91k) last year. However, the India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup match is selling for more money than these amounts.
